We are often approached by local villagers who are facing medical emergencies. Those who we cannot help on location we would transport to Chirundu for professional medical care. Mtendere Mission Hospital is 130kms round trip and uses about 17 liters of diesel. We also need to travel to Lusaka (400kms round trip) twice a month to buy all our provisions.
You can help to keep our wheels rolling, and in turn we can continue to support our surrounding communities when you buy a liter of diesel.
The orphan home needs a total of 15 mattresses. Can you afford to make life a bit more comfortable for one of our orphans?
We are planning on planting vegetables and corn around the orphan home. For the crops to be successful we need to protect them against livestock and the local wild life. This requires the entire 150m perimeter to be fenced off.
This fence will consist of 2.0m Bonnox mesh with 2.4m Y-standards at every 3.0m with treated gum poles concreted into every corner and either sides of the main gate. It works out to a total of $10 per meter.
Commercially produced maize seed will maximize the yield of a crop. By giving someone such a bag of seed you can make sure that their maize harvest will be at least 120% higher than when seed from the previous year's harvest is used.
One bag of seed can feed an entire family for a year providing that the right amount of rain comes at the right time.
One 25kg bag of corn flour or maize meal (staple food to most of Africa) will last a family of 5 people for about 5 days. It is our aim to supply all the elderly in our area with enough maize meal to never go hungry.
At the moment we are stockpiling building material for our next project, a centre for the elderly. This will be a place where people over 65 can come for one warm meal every day. It will also be our control base where assessments will be made about other needs they might have.
You can buy 50kg bags of cement now to make sure this project becomes a reality.
Many people in our area suffer the winter season due to a lack of blankets. In spite of the general perception that Africa is a warm continent, the temperatures can drop very low during the winter months. For only $8 you can make sure that someone sleeps warm during this coming winter.
Typical winter months are between April and August.
Malaria still kills millions of people annually, mostly in the developing world. Children are especially vulnerable to this disease. It has been shown that the use of treated mosquito nets greatly reduce the risk of getting malaria from mosquitoes.
The first 15 nets will go towards furnishing the orphanage
